About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Manage payer rejections in the clearinghouse and claim edits in EPIC
  • Ensure claims are submitted to payers within timely filing deadlines with a goal of clean claim submission
  • Complete electronic and paper specialized billing while reviewing claims for accuracy
  • Review and correct claims that fail billing system edits and document all actions
  • Review accounts in EPIC and other systems to avoid duplicate claims and billing
  • Contact payers or patients to collect additional information required to bill accounts
  • Report claim billing issues to management
  • Answer team members' questions regarding billing processes and requirements
  • Identify billing process improvements and collaborate with management on changes
  • Attend in-services and review payer and fiscal intermediary information
  • Follow up with payers to ensure timely reimbursement
  • Participate in compliance and regulatory programs
  • Coordinate workflow and support a productive, efficient team environment
  • Comply with CMS, Joint Commission, EMTALA, UAMS, and department policies and procedures
  • Complete or assist with special projects
  • Participate in regular reviews and use feedback for quality improvement
  • Maintain working relationships with patients, families, visitors, physicians, and others
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Associate's degree in a related field plus two (2) years of experience in a healthcare revenue cycle related function
  • High School diploma/GED plus four (4) years of experience in a healthcare revenue cycle related or bookkeeping function
  • Six (6) months of medical billing experience preferred
  • Basic understanding of CPT and ICD 10 preferred
  • Familiarity with the Windows environment and billing software preferred
  • Basic understanding of HCPCS coding preferred
  • EPIC experience is a plus
  • Understanding of 3rd party billing requirements
  • Basic accounting skills
  • Ability to utilize a calculator and systems functionality to calculate expected reimbursement from payers
  • Detail oriented with strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment
  • Criminal Background Check and pre-employment screening
  • Required documents: List of three Professional References and Resume
