About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform testing related to blood transfusion and blood products
  • Provide direct patient care by supplying appropriate blood components
  • Wash red blood cells and platelets
  • Perform platelet crossmatching and platelet antibody identification
  • Perform daily reagent quality control and equipment preventive maintenance
  • Issue blood and blood components to the floors
  • Assist in training new staff and students
  • Maintain competency and train on revised and new policies and procedures
  • Report deviations from standard operating procedures to the supervisor
  • Perform other duties as needed

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences, Medical Technology, Chemistry, Biology or related discipline
  • Eligible for ASCP Certification or equivalent
  • Certification must be obtained within a year of eligibility
  • Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment
  • Annual TB screening
  • Criminal background check
  • Substance abuse testing
  • Ability to stand, sit, bend, crawl, crouch, kneel, stoop, reach overhead, lift and carry 25 lbs, and push and pull 25 lbs
  • Ability to use hands to touch, handle or feel
  • Ability to talk and hear continuously
  • Ability to read, concentrate and think analytically continuously
  • Work inside a medical facility environment
