About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Conduct analysis of blood, urine, spinal fluid, body fluids and other biological samples to determine presence of normal and abnormal components
- Perform quality controls or quality check materials and corrective action as required
- Enter test results and other analysis and communication data into laboratory information systems or archival systems
- Provide technical information about specimen collection, transport, identification, documents, test methods and related information to RN’s, physicians and laboratory clients
- Use laboratory computer systems to order tests, generate results and reports, document and communicate results, interpret results, and perform inventory, testing method verification and quality control duties
- Perform daily setup and maintenance on laboratory analyzers and automation line
- Operate spectrophotometers, analyzers, microscopes, slide stainers, diluters, computer-controlled analyzers, mixers, rotators and pipettes
- Perform basic equipment troubleshooting
- Document function checks of temperature-dependent equipment
- Conduct daily quality control review for assigned instruments
- Restock supplies, prepare reagents and rotate stock
- Communicate with clinics, physicians and external staff regarding sample integrity issues and critical values
- Work inside a medical facility environment and meet specified physical activity requirements
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor of Science Degree in chemistry, biology, medical technology, medical laboratory science or similar major
- Sufficient subject credits to allow for eligibility to take the ASCP or equivalent board exam for certification
- ASCP as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), Medical Technologist (MT), or discipline specific certification (C, H) must be obtained within 12 months of hire or within 12 months of becoming eligible
- Previous clinical laboratory experience preferred
- Current ASCP certification as MLS, MT, or C, H specific preferred
- Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment
- Annual TB Screening, Criminal Background Check, Substance Abuse Testing
