About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform a broad range of testing in the Cytogenetics Wet Lab and Analysis
- Process and evaluate specimens and requisitions
- Perform cell culture and harvesting
- Conduct chromosome analysis, imaging, karyotyping, and reporting
- Perform FISH (fluorescence in situ hybridization) testing
- Analyze chromosomes for abnormalities in number, structure, and morphology
- Use microscopes, imaging systems, and laboratory software to evaluate chromosome preparations
- Perform daily, weekly, and monthly quality control and preventative maintenance
- Follow laboratory protocols, safety procedures, regulatory requirements, and safe work practices
- Troubleshoot specimen or testing problems and escalate unusual findings
- Maintain laboratory equipment, reagents, and supplies
- Enter and maintain accurate patient and test information in the laboratory information system
- Assist with validation, quality assurance, proficiency testing, and continuous-improvement activities
- Communicate significant or unusual findings to appropriate laboratory personnel
- Work with supervisors, managers, directors, and department staff as appropriate
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor Degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences, Medical Technology, Biology or an ASCP approved discipline
- ASCP in Cytogenetics CG(ASCP) preferred
- BSMT or BSMLS degree in Cytogenetics preferred
- Previous clinical laboratory experience preferred
- Previous Cytogenetics experience preferred
- General knowledge of clinical laboratory quality control practices preferred
- Persons must have proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment
- Annual TB Screening, Criminal Background Check, Substance Abuse Testing
- Ability to perform the stated physical activities, including lifting and carrying 25 lbs and pushing and pulling 25 lbs
