About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide payroll customer service to external and internal customers
  • Explain policies and procedures, assist with training payroll employees, prepare correspondence, and recommend payroll procedure changes
  • Input and calculate personnel data in the payroll system and correct payroll records
  • Audit payroll records and balance them with the general ledger
  • Research financial data, prepare reports, and process employee demand payments
  • Process mandatory tax withholdings, direct deposits, and voluntary/involuntary deductions
  • Coordinate payroll corrections, document filing and imaging, report distribution, and vendor communications
  • Research approved time worked and time off
  • Coordinate with departments and Human Resources regarding terminations and leave without pay
  • Distribute payroll reports to the HR Benefits team and resolve vendor data discrepancies
  • Reconcile and submit benefit deduction supplier invoices
  • Assist with system upgrade testing, installation, maintenance, and ServiceNow payroll support
  • Complete employment verifications
  • Perform accounting duties and assist with monthly and year-end closing reconciliations
  • Provide training and guidance as a lead worker and potentially supervise hourly/work-study students
  • Audit work hours, time off, and leave; assist departments with timekeeping; administer vacation and sick leave audits

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in general business, finance, accounting, or related field, or equivalent substituted education/experience
  • At least one year of experience in payroll processing, payroll accounting, or related area
  • Knowledge of state payroll processing requirements
  • Knowledge of standard government accounting principles and database management
  • Ability to coordinate production of payrolls
  • Ability to reconcile and balance payroll documents
  • Knowledge of customer service techniques
  • Ability to apply payroll policies, procedures, and regulations
  • Ability to conduct research, perform quantitative quality assurance reviews, and prepare reports
  • Proficient in MS Word and Excel
  • Ability to coordinate with staff involved in payroll production
  • Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment
  • Required criminal background check, financial credit check, and sex offender registry check
  • Effective communication, emotional intelligence, adaptability, critical thinking, teamwork, time management, and organization
