About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Investigate how TRPM7 integrates its ion-channel and kinase activities to regulate cellular signaling and cancer cell plasticity
- Conduct biochemical, molecular, cellular, and biophysical studies related to TRPM7 channel–kinase signaling and cancer cell plasticity
- Design experiments, execute studies, collect data, analyze results, and interpret findings
- Use recombinant protein expression and purification, molecular cloning and mutagenesis, biochemical assays, and structural and biophysical approaches, including cryo-EM
- Investigate TRPM7-dependent cellular and nuclear signaling and channel function using molecular and cellular approaches, patch-clamp electrophysiology, and proteomics/phosphoproteomics
- Work with patient-derived cancer organoid models and animal models
- Prepare and contribute to manuscripts, research progress reports, abstracts, scientific presentations, and grant applications
- Assist with training and research guidance of graduate, professional, and undergraduate students
- Contribute to general laboratory activities
- Participate in seminars, scientific meetings, collaborative activities, career development, and other research-related duties as assigned
- Collaborate with investigators and research cores within the Center for Molecular Interactions in Cancer Research and the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute
Requirements
What you’ll need- Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree by the start date in biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, cancer biology, pharmacology, biophysics, pharmaceutical sciences, or a related biomedical discipline
- Strong research experience in either protein biochemistry/molecular biology or molecular/cell biology
- Candidates must have proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment
- Experience with recombinant protein expression and purification, molecular cloning and mutagenesis, biochemical assays, and structural and biophysical approaches, including cryo-electron microscopy, for protein biochemistry-focused research
- Experience with molecular and cellular approaches, patch-clamp electrophysiology, and proteomics/phosphoproteomics for molecular/cell biology-focused research
- Prior expertise in both protein biochemistry/molecular biology and molecular/cell biology is not required
- Eligibility for the TRI T32 HSIE Postdoctoral Training Program is not required for appointment
