About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Develop and execute the Risk Management Plan with the Director
  • Evaluate adverse and sentinel events
  • Facilitate root cause analyses and coordinate loss prevention and mitigation activities
  • Participate in system-wide policy review and development related to clinical risk and safety
  • Collect, synthesize, interpret, and report risk management and patient safety data
  • Perform, oversee, and evaluate audits and reviews of risk issues
  • Review medical records and identify potential claims or lawsuit issues for the General Counsel’s Office
  • Facilitate case evaluations before the Claims Commission
  • Participate in Ethics Consultations, Complex Case Reviews, Adverse Events Committee reviews, and sentinel-event RCAs
  • Execute risk holds and billing adjustments with the billing department
  • Communicate post-event and complaint investigation findings to patients as appropriate
  • Collaborate with medical staff, nursing, service lines, departments, committees, patients, families, and external customers on risk and safety issues
  • Manage lost-item inquiries, tracking, accounting, and record keeping
  • Use EPIC to review medical records and confirm patient safety database information
  • Establish action plans following adverse or sentinel events
  • Provide ongoing education on patient safety event reporting, patient safety topics, and culture of safety
  • Create educational materials, assist with website development, and support patient safety coach training
  • Provide information on patient rights and responsibilities and assist with patient care coordination
  • Help patients and families access advance-care-planning resources and complete advance directives
  • Liaise between patients, families, providers, and appropriate stakeholders
  • Perform other duties as needed

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s Degree in clinical field or experience in lieu of education
  • 5+ Years clinical experience
  • CPPS and/or CPHRM within 12 months of hire
  • Proficiency with PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, EPIC, and RLDatix
  • Advanced degree in healthcare, related field, or JD preferred
  • 3 years clinical risk management experience in an acute care setting preferred
  • CPPS or CPHRM as required by degree preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of healthcare practices, rules and regulations, COP, Medicare and Medicaid rules/regulations, PSQIA, HIPAA regulations, and Arkansas state and federal laws/regulations
  • Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment
