About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Research, analyze, and resolve physician and hospital accounts
- Work with patients, providers, insurers, departments, and other staff to research complex accounts
- Review reports and monitor account status
- Recommend changes to operating procedures and policies
- Investigate account balances and causes of non-payment
- Initiate claim adjustments and resubmit clean claims to payers or bill patients
- Complete appeals within established time frames and compose appeal letters
- Identify denial root causes and develop solutions to prevent future denials
- Complete cash reconciliation
- Assist patients with billing, service, and insurance questions
- Verify insurance billing and financial assistance postings
- Update insurance and patient demographic information; verify insurance with payers; submit and resubmit claims
- Accept and post payments
- Assist collection agencies with self-pay collections
- Set up payment plans and complete end-of-day processing
- Read, analyze, and interpret payer contract documents
- Prepare records, reports, summaries, analyses, evaluations, recommendations, and statistical data
- Provide departmental assistance regarding insurance policies, collection processes, and billing
- Document encounters and actions in appropriate systems
- Comply with UAMS policies, confidentiality requirements, and HIPAA policies
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School diploma/GED plus five (5) years of experience in a healthcare revenue cycle related or bookkeeping function OR Associate’s degree in a related field plus three (3) years of experience in a healthcare revenue cycle related function OR Bachelor’s in a related field plus one (1) year of experience in a healthcare revenue cycle related function or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Familiarity with Windows environment
- Ability to accurately read, analyze, and interpret contract documents for all payers to determine reimbursement
- Ability to analyze credit balance
- Knowledge of EPIC billing system preferred
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Detail oriented with basic mathematical skills
- Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment
- Criminal background check and pre-employment screening, including possible drug testing and education verification
- Required documents: list of three professional references and resume
