About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Work under the general direction of Fire and Life Safety Officer
  • Be primarily responsible for construction, fire and life safety code and regulatory compliance for the entire campus
  • Monitor campus programs designed to identify, evaluate and control occupational hazards to UAMS employees, including respiratory protection, biological safety, chemical safety and radiation safety
  • Stay up to date with regulatory changes and update SOPs as needed
  • Conduct safety audits to assess compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
  • Evaluate employee and student safety, recommend corrective actions, and conduct follow-up audits
  • Provide general, electrical, and fire safety training to university employees and students
  • Help develop policies and procedures that support regulatory compliance
  • Maintain administrative records for the Safety Compliance Division
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's Degree in environmental sciences, safety, industrial hygiene, chemistry, physics, or a related field
  • Three (3) or more years of experience in occupational health and safety or a related field
  • Computer competency
  • OSHA’s Hazardous Waste and Emergency Response standard (HAZWOPER); 40 Hour initial training with eight (8) hours annual refresher
  • CPR/AED Certified
  • Ability to follow oral instructions, read and write
  • Knowledge of codes, standards, and ability to utilize and make appropriate decisions
  • Persons must have proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment
  • Annual TB Screening, Criminal Background Check, Substance Abuse Testing
