About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Work under supervision and read/interpret health record documentation to identify all diagnoses and procedures
  • Assess the adequacy of health record documentation to ensure it supports all assigned diagnoses and procedures
  • Apply knowledge of anatomy and physiology, clinical disease processes, pharmacology, and diagnostic and procedural terminology to assign accurate codes
  • Apply knowledge of disease processes and surgical procedures to assign non-indexed medical terms to the appropriate classification/nomenclature class
  • Apply UHDDS definitions to select the principal diagnosis and principal procedures
  • Apply Prospective Payment System knowledge to confirm DRGs and APCs
  • Apply ICD-10 and CPT coding knowledge to assist patient billing services in submitting clean medical-necessity claims

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School Diploma/GED plus (2) years of coding experience
  • Must have an understanding of CPT and ICD-10
  • Must have one of the following certifications: CCA, CCS, CPC, RHIT, or RHIA
  • Persons must have proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment
  • Position is subject to pre-employment screening (criminal background, drug testing, and/or education verification)
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in health information management or related field
  • Preferred: Associate's degree in health information management or related field
