Key responsibilities & impact
  • Assemble supplies for surgical procedures
  • Set up and maintain the sterile field
  • Pass surgical instruments
  • Assist with in-room preparation
  • Coordinate care for surgical cases with surgeons, nurses, and other team members
  • Collaborate with clinic providers, fellows, and staff
  • Ensure availability of instrumentation, supplies, and equipment for assigned cases
  • Prepare operating rooms and equipment for upcoming cases
  • Clean, arrange, and transport instruments to the soiled workroom according to department policy
  • Assist with instrument reprocessing when assigned cases are completed and time permits
  • Ensure operating rooms are case-ready for the following day’s cases
  • Apply practical knowledge of OR equipment, maintenance, and safety
  • Use available communication tools
  • Offer assistance to other team members and share knowledge and expertise
  • Attend departmental in-services and educational offerings
  • Incorporate new knowledge and skills into clinical practice
  • Learn new techniques
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School GED
  • Graduate of a NBSTSA-accredited or a NCCT-approved Surgical Technology school/program, surgical/scrub tech training through the military, or a minimum of two years on-the-job training (OJT) surgical/scrub experience at an acute care facility or ambulatory surgery center
  • Ability to follow oral instruction, read, and write
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Must be fitted for, capable of donning and performing routine tasks in personal protective equipment including N95 masks, Powered Air Purifying Respirators (PAPR) or Controlled Air Purifying Respirators (CAPR)
  • Required documents include License or Certificate, three professional references, and resume
  • Annual TB Screening, Criminal Background Check, and Substance Abuse Testing
  • Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment
  • Ability to perform required physical activities including hearing, standing, talking, walking, pulling, pushing, reaching, sitting, stooping, grasping, kneeling, repetitive motion, and handling sharps
