About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Assemble supplies for surgical procedures
- Set up and maintain the sterile field
- Pass surgical instruments
- Assist with room preparation
- Coordinate care needs for surgical cases with surgeons, nurses, and other team members
- Work collaboratively with clinic providers, fellows, and staff
- Ensure availability of appropriate instrumentation, supplies, and equipment
- Prepare operating rooms and ensure equipment is ready for surgical use
- Clean, arrange, and transport instruments according to department policy
- Assist with instrument reprocessing tasks
- Ensure operating rooms are case-ready for the following day
- Apply practical knowledge of OR equipment, maintenance, and safety
- Use available communication tools and assist team members
- Share knowledge and expertise with staff
- Attend departmental in-services and educational offerings
- Incorporate new knowledge and skills into clinical practice
- Provide professional and friendly customer service
- Maintain confidentiality and support patient- and family-centered care
Requirements
What you’ll need- Valid ST Certification from an Accredited School
- 12 months of orthopedic and operating room experience
- High School Diploma or GED
- Graduate of an NBSTSA-accredited Surgical Technology program OR NCCT-approved Surgical Technology program OR completed military surgical/scrub tech training OR two or more years of on-the-job surgical/scrub experience in an acute care facility or ambulatory surgery center
- 1 year of operating room experience
- BLS Certified with AHA
- Scrub Tech Certification
- Orthopedic experience
- Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment
- Pre-employment screening, including criminal background, drug testing, and/or education verification
- Applicants cannot be currently employed by UAMS; previous UAMS employees must have terminated more than 180 days prior
- Ability to work 36 hours/week for 13 weeks
- Ability to work rotating call
- Ability to effectively communicate
- Ability to lift and carry 25+ lbs. and push and pull 25+ lbs.
