About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Deliver medical care to a wide variety of patients
  • Examine and treat patients independently and in autonomous collaboration with other healthcare professionals
  • Provide illness and injury care, disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and recovery support
  • Prescribe medications and order diagnostic tests
  • Advise patients about continuing care
  • Perform and document complete physical examinations and comprehensive health histories
  • Order and interpret diagnostic and therapeutic tests
  • Prescribe pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments
  • Implement interventions to support physiologic stability
  • Monitor intervention effectiveness
  • Facilitate patient transitions between healthcare settings, including admissions, transfers, and discharges
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members and make appropriate referrals
  • Provide educational tools to staff, patients, and families
  • Assess physical and psychosocial status through interviews, histories, examinations, and diagnostic studies
  • Formulate treatment plans with physicians and follow up on health problems
  • Write prescriptions for medications and blood products in accordance with written practice protocols
  • Request consultations from physicians and other healthcare professionals
  • Assess and follow consult patients independently when needed
  • Interpret study and test findings and intervene accordingly
  • Evaluate quality of care and recommend improvements
  • Initiate therapeutic plans consistent with patients’ continuing healthcare needs
  • Answer patient inquiries by telephone and UChart In-Basket
  • Assist with family dynamics and coping mechanisms during acute and chronic care
  • Conduct or participate in multidisciplinary rounds
  • Perform patient triage and determine urgency of physician evaluation
  • Provide symptom management for oncologic treatment side effects
  • Respond to medical and oncologic emergencies in CTU/clinics
  • Assist with peer-to-peer authorizations and medical forms
  • Ensure office operations run smoothly and communicate with referring physicians and patients
  • Perform bone marrow biopsies and other procedures as needed
  • Rotate weekend and holiday call coverage
  • Rotate Hematology/Oncology consultations and inpatient care at UMH
  • Coordinate with triage nurses on OCC clinic additions
  • Facilitate clinical research protocols and coordinate patient care with research staff

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Master’s degree in relevant field
  • Valid State of Florida APRN License
  • Board certification
  • CITI certification or ability to obtain within three months of employment
  • CPR and ACLS
  • OCN or AOCNP preferred or within two years of employment
  • Minimum of two years in Hematology/Oncology experience
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions
  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail
  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form
