About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Deliver medical care to a wide variety of patients in acute and outpatient oncology settings
- Examine and treat patients independently while collaborating with healthcare professionals
- Manage illness and injury, including disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and recovery
- Prescribe medications and order and interpret diagnostic and therapeutic tests
- Perform and document complete physical examinations and comprehensive health histories
- Implement interventions to maintain or regain physiologic stability and monitor effectiveness
- Facilitate patient transitions between healthcare settings, including admissions, transfers, and discharges
- Make referrals and collaborate with multidisciplinary team members
- Provide education to staff, patients, and families
- Serve as a role model and mentor for staff, APP students, Fellows, nursing staff, and nursing students
- Coordinate and standardize advanced practice processes across patient care services and collaborative teams
- Participate in or lead hospital committees, quality improvement, research projects, and unit councils
- Co-lead development of new services or strategic performance improvement initiatives
- Participate in survivorship and long-term patient care
- Travel to the SCCC main campus and satellite locations to provide outpatient, survivorship, and walk-in care
- Provide outpatient oncology and infusion/chemotherapy treatment unit coverage, including on-call, weekends, and cross coverage
- Provide patient and family education regarding disease processes, treatment options, complications, medications, discharge planning, and lifestyle modification
- Coordinate patient care, documentation, transfers, referrals, and communication with physicians and care teams
- Collect data for patient and program evaluation and participate in quality assessment and improvement activities
- Respond to emergencies and rapid responses
- Collaborate with pharmacy, nursing, physicians, and other disciplines to optimize care and infusion-center workflows
- Obtain informed consent when indicated
- Perform triage, develop care plans, determine urgency, and escalate cases to attending physicians/providers
- Provide symptom management for cancer- and treatment-related side effects
- Perform designated procedures after competency demonstration and credentialing
- Ensure compliance with legal, billing, regulatory, and clinical policies
- Communicate daily with triage nurses regarding patients requiring symptom-management clinic visits
- Conduct educational in-services for staff on infusion-center topics
Requirements
What you’ll need- Master’s Degree or higher
- Florida APRN license or Physician Assistant license
- Graduate of Master of Science in Physician Assistant degree
- Graduate of Master in Science of Nursing or higher curriculum
- Board certification as APRN from a nationally accredited organization such as ANCC or AANP
- Board certification as a PA from NCCPA
- Current Certification in BLS and ACLS
- CITI certification within three months of employment
- ONS Chemotherapy Immunotherapy certification upon hire or during orientation, renewed every two years
- Minimum 2 years of relevant advanced practice nursing experience preferred
- Minimum 2 years of experience treating hematology/oncology, acute care, or intensive care unit patients preferred
- AOCNP certification within one year of employment, applicable to APRN
- Participation in 360° peer review process
- Submission of annual protocols to the practice site
- Maintenance of national certification
- Attendance at one national conference
- Attendance at monthly educational grand rounds or relevant educational in-house meetings
- Ability to author or contribute to an article
- Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions
- Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail
- Ability to analyze, organize, and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines
- Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment
- Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form
