About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provides continuous visual patient observation and surveillance of assigned high risk patients
- Observes more than one patient at a time at the assigned monitoring station
- Maintains a clear view of all assigned patients
- Verbally redirects patients via digital 2-way audio device from identifiable risk behaviors or imminent danger
- Notifies the unit nursing team when patients require immediate assistance
- Utilizes required visualization and intervention technology in accordance with department standards
- Demonstrates proficiency with electronic systems needed for the role
- Participates in hand-off of pertinent patient information and behavior at shift changes and new admissions
- Identifies variances and initiates follow-up actions regarding non-functional equipment
- Completes required observation documentation at established intervals
- Participates in identifying and reporting patient safety issues
- Assures a safe patient environment and seeks assistance with potential safety hazards
- Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school diploma or equivalent
- Certified Nursing Assistant license or certification in a relevant specialty or field (e.g., Medical Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician, Associate Degree in Medical Field)
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience
- Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail
- Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships
- Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form
- Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines
- Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary
- Commitment to the University’s core values
