About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Support operations of the Associated Students of Madison (ASM), the University of Wisconsin-Madison student government
- Work directly with ASM student leaders and Registered Student Organizations seeking access to student segregated fees
- Track expenses and funding for student groups
- Provide guidance aligned with university and ASM policies
- Develop financial reports and reconcile expenses
- Work with campus partners for the benefit of student organizations
- Help students navigate payments, reimbursements, and purchases through university finance and HR systems
- Monitor financial transactions and fund balances
- Generate and reconcile complex reports and statements
- Review and approve complex transactions and assign funding codes
- Reallocate expenses to appropriate funding strings
- Draft communications and reports and maintain varied records
- Answer complex fiscal questions and provide information to various audiences
- Hire student employees in the payroll system and coordinate onboarding
- Review transaction-processing internal controls and recommend policies and procedures
- Serve as a unit liaison to leadership, providing financial advice, recommendations, and financial status updates
- May train staff on financial processes and best practices
- Attend occasional evening meetings with students as needed
Requirements
What you’ll need- 1 year of working experience in general financial/accounting, administration, operations, and/or customer service roles or relevant student experience
- Proficiency with computer software/applications, Microsoft Office Suite, and data entry techniques
- Ability to communicate with staff and students of various backgrounds with clarity and precision, both written and verbal
- Strong organizational skills with a proven track record of prioritizing tasks and managing projects in dynamic, fast-moving environments
- University sponsorship is not available; continuous eligibility to work in the United States is required without employer sponsorship
- Employment may require a criminal background check
- An associate degree or a bachelor's degree in accounting or a related financial/business field is preferred
