About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide the Electrical and Mechanical Engineering groups with expertise and advice on strategy, design, and plans for PSL projects
  • Develop user interface screens for the IceCube Upgrade project
  • Work with ultra-high vacuum and ultra-high purity technology
  • Design and optimize electrical, mechanical, and thermal systems
  • Work with controls hardware
  • Prepare reports of design status and/or technical research for professional organizations, government/sponsor review boards, and design reviews
  • Participate in reviews
  • Support problem, issue, and needs identification and provide solution options for strategic decision-making
  • May supervise daily activities of unit or program staff, facilitate staff training, and resolve routine personnel issues
  • Use computer design applications for modeling, sophisticated analysis, and optimization of large-scale design and fabrication efforts
  • Coordinate project activities
  • Conceptualize, specify, design, construct, integrate, operate, test, calibrate, document, and improve unique, large-scale instrumentation systems
  • Conduct research and development of new processes, techniques, and approaches for advanced instrumentation systems
  • Collaborate with researchers, scientists, faculty, private industry, and international collaborators

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum of five years design experience in electrical or electronics engineering
  • Experience with modeling software, documentation tools, and project management software (MATLAB, AutoCAD, Ignition, SolidWorks or similar)
  • Required BS in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field
  • Employment may require a criminal background check
