About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide individualized academic advising to MD and MPH students
  • Serve as a main point of contact for students regarding educational options and academic requirements
  • Assist students in identifying interests, skills, and values to match appropriate fields of study and career options
  • Refer students to appropriate institutional resources
  • Receive, process, and respond to academic inquiries according to established policies and procedures
  • Monitor student academic progress to identify and address learning needs
  • Collaborate with program directors, faculty, academic staff, and the Learning Specialist team
  • Participate in the campus-wide advising community and provide input on advising, recruitment, and co/curricular programs
  • Proactively engage students as needed
  • Maintain expertise in advised curricula and assist with policy and curriculum exceptions
  • Supervise unit staff and/or plan, organize, allocate resources, assess performance, and lead operational activities within advising or academic services
  • Maintain confidentiality and accurate student records in accordance with institutional and FERPA policies
  • Develop and implement academic advising events, including workshops, panel discussions, and guest speakers

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum of two years full-time professional experience in academic support, learning assistance, student success, academic advising, or related educational work
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Experience working in health professions education, graduate education, or other highly competitive academic programs preferred
  • Experience using assessment data for continuous improvement preferred
  • Masters degree preferred, particularly in education, educational psychology, learning sciences, or related field
  • Cover letter required

  • Proof of work authorization and eligibility to work
  • Employment may require a criminal background check
