About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Design, deliver, and evaluate research-based educational programming and services focused on natural resources and water in Wood County
  • Build and strengthen partnerships among farmers, residents, watershed organizations, conservation partners, educators, and local officials
  • Provide research-based education, outreach, and public engagement on water quality, water quantity, conservation practices, groundwater issues, and emerging water resource topics
  • Support and coordinate watershed-based conservation initiatives, including producer-led watershed groups
  • Connect communities with resources, funding opportunities, technical expertise, and innovative conservation approaches
  • Serve as a local water resource leader and trusted source of information
  • Identify emerging issues, foster informed dialogue, and connect community needs with Extension expertise
  • Assist with monitoring outreach program budget spending
  • Schedule and secure resources and communicate logistics for outreach programs
  • Lead implementation of programs, policies, and procedures through oversight of day-to-day activities for program staff and student and community volunteers
  • Deliver outreach program content and materials to community members
  • Research, develop, and facilitate outreach program content and materials
  • Identify, promote, and maintain external partnerships
  • Communicate plans, activities, and achievements to Program Managers, partners, and relevant stakeholders
  • Develop and evaluate curriculum and programs and provide recommendations for improvement
  • Work occasional nights and weekends to meet program needs
  • Travel periodically for in-state work

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • At least 2 years work experience relevant to the programmatic responsibilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally using a variety of methods and technology
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people from a wide range of backgrounds and perspectives
  • Knowledge of water resources, watersheds, aquatic ecosystems, groundwater, water quality, conservation practices, and natural resource stewardship principles
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with community members, schools, government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and other stakeholders
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, including natural/water resource management, agriculture extension, hydrogeology, soil science, agronomy, rural sociology, environmental science, or closely related fields
  • Valid driver's license and reliable independent transportation for periodic in-state work travel, and/or compliance with UW-Madison vehicle use authorization requirements
  • Ability to lift educational equipment up to 25 pounds with assistance
  • Eligibility to work in the United States without requiring employer sponsorship
