About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Manage day-to-day operations of a multi-state cooperative extension technical assistance project supporting prevention, treatment, and recovery for opioid addiction and co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders in rural areas
  • Contribute to planning and designing implementation projects
  • Manage project budgets, education, communication, events, and evaluation
  • Lead project management, financial planning, problem resolution, and reporting
  • Collaborate with leaders and extension colleagues throughout Wisconsin and Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, and Ohio
  • Organize development and delivery of outreach programming
  • Expand and ensure access to programs, facilities, and educational services for diverse audiences
  • Create project plans, monitor progress and performance, and identify, resolve, or escalate risks and issues
  • Prepare regular project status reports
  • Assist with development and auditing of project-specific budgets
  • Serve as subject matter expert and unit liaison; provide updates to stakeholders
  • Estimate project costs, resources, and timelines; monitor activities, negotiate resources, assign tasks, and follow change-control processes
  • Manage outside contractors and ensure satisfactory service standards
  • Set priorities, allocate tasks, and collaborate with project staff to meet targets and milestones

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Two (2) or more years of experience in project management or managing programs or initiatives as part of other job duties
  • Detail-oriented with highly effective time management skills
  • Experience managing multiple tasks, timelines, and schedules while maintaining high-quality work
  • Strong written and oral, including formal presentation, communication skills
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other agencies, community-based services, or organizations to address mental health
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to build and maintain a professional work environment
  • Experience with education and presentations using Zoom or another virtual platform
  • Familiarity with Cooperative Extension
  • Work or lived experience with rural audiences
  • Bachelor’s degree in a field relevant to the programmatic responsibilities, such as community health education, public health, community psychology, family and consumer sciences, health policy, or social work
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable independent transportation for periodic in-state work travel, and/or compliance with UW-Madison vehicle use authorization
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds with assistance
  • Successful completion of an initial caregiver check and every-four-years check
  • Eligibility to work in the United States without employer sponsorship
