About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Analyze, design, develop, and support in-house applications, websites, interfaces, reporting systems, and LIMS supporting WSLH laboratories and divisions
  • Research new technologies, methodologies, programming languages, and frameworks
  • Review systems for cybersecurity threats and weaknesses and take corrective action
  • Implement automated testing, source-code management, and CI/CD strategies and tools
  • Perform systems analysis and document systems design
  • Work with laboratory analysts to develop solutions, including cloud-based solutions, supporting research, analysis, and workflows
  • Maintain existing programs and resolve problems
  • Create new web and computer applications with development team members
  • Develop data interfaces and APIs with internal and external systems, customers, and agencies
  • Research and implement development tools and infrastructure
  • Automate and improve development and release processes
  • Develop data structure and systems performance strategies
  • Train and provide technical guidance to lower-level staff
  • Review systems requirements, designs, and business processes for alignment with IT and business strategies
  • Support WSLH laboratories with testing, reporting, research, and other needs
  • May supervise unit staff and resolve routine personnel issues
  • Resolve complex technical design and system integration problems
  • Lead application development, integration upgrades, and maintenance projects
  • Conduct system analysis, interpret requirements, and develop detailed system design specifications
  • Consult with clients on project status, proposals, and technical issues
  • Ensure systems are safe and secure against cybersecurity threats
  • Design and develop integrated applications meeting present and future business needs
  • Determine testing methodologies and manage comprehensive test plans
  • Work under the general direction of the Director of Dev/Ops
  • Complete initial training 100% on-site; hybrid remote work may be granted afterward at manager discretion

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience developing applications using Java and IDEs such as Eclipse or equivalent tools
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with Oracle and SQL Server databases, including advanced SQL skills and database design
  • Experience with DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, automated builds, deployments, and testing
  • Experience with web application development, secure development practices, and prevention/mitigation of common cybersecurity threats and vulnerabilities
  • Experience with software quality assurance and testing, including test plans, test cases, and automated or manual test scripts
  • Demonstrated technical leadership through mentoring, architecture and code reviews, stakeholder influence, and delivery of customer-focused business outcomes
  • Working knowledge of Linux operating systems
  • Working knowledge of Git-based source control and collaboration tools, including GitHub and/or GitLab
  • Working knowledge of Maven and artifact repository management tools such as Nexus
  • Working knowledge of HL7 healthcare data exchange standards and interfaces
  • Working knowledge of batch processing and batch job design
  • Working knowledge of PHP, JavaScript, or other scripting/programming languages
  • Familiarity with front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript frameworks including React
  • Approximately 8+ years in software engineering, application development, or enterprise solution delivery, including 7+ years with Java, Spring Boot, or comparable backend technologies
  • Ability to work in the United States; WSLH does not sponsor work visas
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check prior to an offer of employment
  • Four-year degree in Computer Science or related field is preferred
