About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Work with diversified vegetable producers and agribusiness professionals to solve production challenges and improve sustainability and resilience
  • Incorporate new research findings into outreach and educational materials
  • Identify needs and develop and maintain high-quality outreach education programs addressing crop management issues
  • Develop and maintain expertise in vegetable crop production and management
  • Build trust-based relationships with stakeholders
  • Collaborate with Extension and CALS colleagues, producers, technical advisors, researchers, and other stakeholders
  • Respond to timely management questions and facilitate two-way communication between producers and University researchers
  • Schedule and secure resources and communicate outreach program logistics
  • Report plans, activities, and achievements to Area Extension Director, Program Managers, County Partners, and stakeholders
  • Deliver, research, develop, and facilitate outreach program content and materials
  • Monitor outreach program budget spending as needed
  • Develop and evaluate curricula and programs and recommend improvements
  • Lead day-to-day implementation of programs, policies, and procedures involving staff, students, and community volunteers
  • Identify, promote, and maintain external partnerships

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Three or more years relevant professional experience in vegetable and/or annual specialty crop production systems
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal, through a variety of technologies
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work with people from a wide range of backgrounds and perspectives
  • Demonstrated skills in interpreting, utilizing, and applying evidence-based information and research findings
  • Bachelor's degree required in a field related to this position's focus
  • Valid driver's license and reliable independent transportation for periodic in-state work travel, and/or compliance with UW-Madison vehicle use authorization
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds without assistance
  • Ability to navigate uneven ground during farm visits or field work
  • Ability to work outside in inclement weather
  • Applicants must ensure eligibility to work in the United States without employer sponsorship
  • Preferred: experience building diverse collaborative partnerships; educational program development; experimental design, statistical analysis, and research data interpretation; grant writing; fiscal management; collaborative educational or outreach event organization
