About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Maintain consultative relationships with complex group, VB, and integrated customers with 2,000 or more lives
- Develop and implement customized national service strategies for assigned cases
- Drive growth and retention through strategic customer relationship management
- Improve block profitability, participation, and case and premium persistency
- Support permanent and temporary national case assignments for field partners
- Facilitate special initiatives and projects and act as liaison for field partners
- Coordinate resources and concentrated efforts to meet client needs
- Develop actions through risk, health and productivity analysis, and claim consultation
- Use Unum services and solutions to recommend actions, resolve issues, and identify solutions
- Ensure accurate new-business implementation and coordinate with Home Office functional areas
- Hold Home Office, third-party, and technology partners accountable for issue resolution and implementation planning
- Own account-management strategy for assigned national business
- Develop and implement customized strategic business plans for each client
- Execute renewal conditioning and prepare pre-renewal face-to-face visits using claim trend analysis and Integrated Disability Management models
- Partner with Sales Consultants on annual renewals, including claim trend, underwriting, and return-to-work analysis
- Develop enrollment and re-enrollment strategies to maximize employee marketing of Unum benefits
- Provide subject-matter leadership and develop broker, consultant, third-party firm, benefits administration, and exchange relationships
- Consult with clients on Unum solutions and health-management strategies
- Identify new-business opportunities and achieve assigned block-growth objectives
- Advise employers on administrative and enhanced service offerings
- Attend customer site visits in Portland, Chattanooga, or Glendale
- Conduct frequent proactive face-to-face customer meetings
- Train Home Office and field partners on National Client Management strategies and initiatives
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- 5 to 7 years of employee benefits/insurance industry experience preferred
- Strong consultative skills and broad problem-solving and decision-making ability
- Segment/specialty knowledge preferred
- Superior relationship building, management, interpersonal, and partnership skills
- Presale expertise to influence and sell Unum’s value proposition
- Demonstrated critical-thinking ability, data analysis, and effective recommendation skills
- Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation, persuasion, and conflict-management skills
- Ability to anticipate client needs and educate
- Robust strategic re-enrollment expertise
- Strong organizational, planning, time-management, and delegation skills
- Strong leadership skills and ability and desire to coach and mentor others
- Full understanding of underwriting and risk concepts
- Ability to correlate the entire Unum product portfolio and cross-sell products/services to brokers/clients
- Strong business and financial acumen
- Strong computer skills
- Proper licensing and appointing must be obtained within 90 days from the date of hire/promotion
- Ability to travel as needed
