About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Consult with sales and service partners to provide products and plan options that meet customer needs
- Evaluate and select risk for profitable acquisition of new cases and retention of in-force cases
- Conduct risk assessments to ensure business guidelines, target profit and metrics are met
- Identify and analyze risk trends and recommend responses
- Contribute to policies and procedures supporting product development initiatives
- Demonstrate mastery of the company’s product portfolio, sales, implementation and enrollment processes, and marketplace influences
- Deliver accurate and timely service while maintaining internal and external partner relationships
- Serve as a technical resource for junior underwriters and provide developmental feedback
- Mentor and coach underwriters and provide management input regarding mentee performance
- Lead and influence organizational change to drive profitable results
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelors degree or equivalent, relevant business experience
- Demonstrated, consistent proficiency at Senior Underwriter level
- Mastery of product provisions, plan designs, pricing and contractual benefits
- Excellent technical expertise in risk selection
- Demonstrated strong understanding of top-line and bottom-line objectives
- Exhibit complete understanding of sales/distribution process and market trends
- Strong mentoring and coaching skills
- Strong creative problem solving skills
- Strong critical thinking/analytical reasoning skills
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple priorities
- Highly skilled in persuasiveness and negotiation
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and in a team environment
- Exhibit a strong commitment to quality and personal ownership of results
