About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Assist the medical team in providing quality care to patients
- Obtain medical history, triage patients, and record vital signs
- Reconcile medication lists in the EHR
- Report abnormal results to physicians immediately
- Scan appropriate patient information into the EHR
- Assist physicians in examination rooms with procedures such as suture/staple removal, dressing changes, and minor surgical procedures
- Contact medical facilities or departments to schedule surgeries, tests, or hospital admissions
- Code diagnoses and procedures to obtain insurance authorizations and appeals
- Explain surgical procedures and processes to patients and families
- Maintain physicians' surgery schedules
- Answer multiline phones, triage calls, and direct messages
- Schedule appointments and register patients by obtaining paperwork, insurance cards, and copayments
- Maintain clean examination rooms and waiting areas
- Complete KASPER queries, patient forms, school/work statements, and FMLA paperwork
- Check patients out and schedule follow-up appointments
- Order office supplies and prepare new patient packets
- Perform office maintenance, housekeeping, reporting, and tracking
- Maintain compliance with company policies, procedures, standards of conduct, HIPAA privacy, and security requirements
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School Diploma or GED/Equivalent (required)
- Medical Assisting certification from a nationally recognized organization, such as CMA, CCMA, or RMA (required)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) (required)
- One year of medical assisting experience working in a medical facility and/or documented evidence of externship completed in a medical office (preferred)
- Medical Assisting Degree (preferred)
