About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Own the Customer.io CRM data foundation, including objects, attributes, events, and identifiers
  • Design and maintain data pipelines, schemas, event contracts, and data freshness requirements with Engineering and Data
  • Implement monitoring and alerting for stale, missing, or malformed data
  • Build modular, reusable, and understandable journeys, triggers, and segments
  • Establish naming conventions, versioning, documentation, and deprecation routines
  • Design the platform for scale, including volume, throughput, rate limits, and platform constraints
  • Structure a shared platform for multiple products and brands while balancing consistency and autonomy
  • Own global frequency capping, priority rules, and suppression logic
  • Translate Marketing and Commercial objectives into data, segmentation, and workflow architecture
  • Own and communicate the CRM platform roadmap
  • Create templates, reusable components, documented segments, guardrails, and enablement materials
  • Train marketing teams and maintain practical documentation
  • Identify automation opportunities and evaluate AI for content generation, send-time and channel optimization, segmentation, anomaly detection, and QA
  • Apply data minimization, least-privilege access, retention rules, consent, opt-out, and preference models
  • Support GDPR, access reviews, vendor risk management, audit evidence, and jurisdictional compliance
  • Own QA processes, test sends, seed lists, rendering checks, link validation, and pre-send review
  • Manage email deliverability, including SPF, DKIM, DMARC, warm-up, list hygiene, bounces, and complaints
  • Define approval gates, no-send windows, rollback procedures, and incident response
  • Own experimentation design, holdout groups, and performance reporting with Data

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • BS or advanced degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
  • 4+ years of experience in the field, including meaningful time owning a marketing automation, CRM, or customer engagement platform in a technical capacity
  • Hands-on experience with Customer.io or comparable platforms such as Braze, Iterable, Klaviyo, or Salesforce Marketing Cloud at architecture and administration level
  • Strong SQL and comfort working with data warehouses and modern data pipelines
  • Understanding of REST APIs, webhooks, event-driven data models, and identity resolution
  • Working knowledge of Liquid, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for email and in-app content
  • Ability to design maintainable, scalable structures
  • Experience working with personal data under a security and privacy-first approach, including consent management and GDPR
  • Ability to explain complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Comfort working across Marketing, Commercial, Product, Data, and Engineering
  • Strong ownership, accountability, and attention to detail
  • Fluent written and oral English
