About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Performs professional accounting work in one or more areas of the University accounting system
- Supervises subordinate technical and clerical employees
- Develops and recommends policies and procedures for accounting systems and financial reporting
- Reviews and analyzes financial data to identify problem areas and recommends system modifications
- Prepares instructions for accounting system changes
- Interprets accounting system output and provides consultative services to University officials
- Trains academic and administrative staff on accounting matters
- Prepares routine and special financial reports for University officers and management
- Designs financial reports and statements reflecting fiscal operations
- Interprets trends and projects data into the future
- Prepares reports for Federal and State agencies on sponsored projects
- Performs cost-finding analyses to recommend cost redistribution or third-party program recovery rates
- Tests accounting data, account balances, and reporting timeliness
- Makes day-to-day decisions on accounting treatment of financial transactions
- Monitors special purpose funds and establishes accounting classifications
- Develops systems of controls
- Consults with internal and external auditors
- Organizes schedules and supervises assigned accounting employees
- Assists or advises peers on complex accounting problems and policy implementation
- Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance or equivalent and 3 years of relevant experience required
- Equivalent combination of education and experience accepted
- Ability to perform professional accounting work across financial reporting, cost analysis and distribution, classification of accounts and funds, accounting systems, and sponsored programs accounting
- Ability to supervise subordinate technical and clerical employees
- Ability to develop and recommend accounting systems and financial reporting policies and procedures
- Ability to analyze financial data, accounting systems, account balances, and reporting timeliness
- Ability to prepare reports for University management and Federal and State agencies
- Ability to consult with internal and external auditors
- Ability to organize schedules and supervise assigned employees
- Regular, full-time work schedule of 40 hours per week
