About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Direct other team members on administration of server and storage infrastructure
  • Analyze the environment and identify problems, improvement opportunities, and service enhancements
  • Evaluate alternative strategies and recommend solutions
  • Keep abreast of technologies improving SAN/storage infrastructure and Linux or AIX servers
  • Prepare implementation plans, timelines, recommendations, and approval materials
  • Write, monitor, and troubleshoot Unix and Ansible scripts
  • Install and maintain operating systems, systems software, and layered products for Linux platforms
  • Support systems administrators and consult clients on platform configuration and use
  • Communicate planned and implemented changes and problem-resolution status
  • Respond to end-user and IS service requests
  • Coordinate activities with applications, Customer Services, Help Desk, and Data Center staff
  • Provide technical consulting services and mentor staff
  • Serve on University and Medical Center teams
  • Lead use-case analysis, solution design, and deployment on on-premise or cloud infrastructure
  • Provide expertise in clustered high-availability virtual infrastructure and integrate on-premise and cloud solutions
  • Orchestrate and automate deployments across cloud and on-premise infrastructure
  • Lead performance monitoring, capacity analysis, provisioning, maintenance, patching, firmware/software updates, incident analysis, and platform stability follow-up
  • Maintain interoperability matrices and technical documentation
  • Lead discussions of new infrastructure products and services and engage vendors
  • Prepare documentation for University standards and procedures
  • Perform implementation and maintenance during business hours and outside business hours
  • Serve as a technical escalation point for on-call roles
  • Perform miscellaneous duties and other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School diploma or equivalent and 7 years of related experience required
  • Bachelor's degree in related discipline such as Computer Science, Business, Data Science, Engineering preferred
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Expertise with virtualization technology and cloud providers such as Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure required
  • Knowledge of server hardware and storage array networks required
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills and exemplary speaking and presentation skills required
  • Ability to provide on-call support, after-hours and weekend maintenance and implementation activities required
  • Ability to travel to and from Data Center facilities required
  • Strong scripting skills preferred
  • Expertise with server operating systems and orchestration and automation tools preferred
  • Strong knowledge of the Unix operating system preferred
  • Experience in a higher education or healthcare field preferred
  • Experience leading a team of Systems Engineers preferred
