About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Organize and coordinate medical services with medical providers for unaccompanied children
- Process TARS through the UC Portal
- Work closely with medical providers, center leadership, and related departments
- Maintain the UC Portal system
- Conduct initial medical screening and surveillance and support ongoing healthcare
- Provide health education and support partnerships and outreach
- Lead and direct quality services for youth, staff, and medical providers
- Monitor service delivery and ensure compliance with company, state, and federal guidelines
- Prepare youth for examinations and record medical intake
- Initiate routine pregnancy tests
- Assist medical provider staff with claims submission
- Update UC charts with allergies, medications, and immunization history
- Educate and counsel youth regarding disease, treatment, and prevention
- Answer youth questions regarding health, medication refills, and lab results
- Oversee youth care staff and ensure adequate monitoring and safe, efficient care
- Assist with health education classes
- Obtain, compile, and maintain medical files and required documentation
- Schedule and comply with medical appointments and timelines
- Respond immediately to emergency medical needs
- Maintain and review medical supplies; order supplies and medication as needed
- Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports
- Arrange transportation for medical appointments
- Submit, review, and follow up on significant incident reports involving medical issues
- Participate in quality improvement activities
- Troubleshoot complex medical case-management issues
- Develop working relationships with staff, coworkers, physicians, and youth
- Develop and expand medical, specialty, and dental services with local providers
- Maintain HIPAA privacy
- Travel and support other Refugio programs when necessary, including traveling with youth to medical appointments
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School Diploma or equivalent
- MA Certification
- 1 year experience in the child welfare field working with children and/or adolescents in a social service setting
- Must demonstrate experience training and leading others and adapting to diverse situations
- Minimum age of 21 years or older
- Ability to resolve unforeseen problems with little or no direction from manager
- Excellent presentation skills and oral and written communication skills
- Proficiency with computers, common office equipment, and MS Office products
- Bilingual in Spanish and English (read, write, speak)
- Clean criminal background check
- Clean child abuse and neglect or child protective services check (CAN)
- Ability to multitask, be detail-oriented, and be organized
- Meet contract requirements for all immunizations
- Able to evacuate at short notice and accompany residents to another city for several days
- Ability to remain calm and composed under stress
- Ability to perform emergency behavioral intervention (EBI), as applicable
- Ability to ascend/descend stairs and lift up to 15 lbs.
- Ability to stand, bend, or stoop for sustained periods
- Ability to run, jump, lunge, twist, push, pull, apply approved restraint techniques, and manage the weight of an infant or adolescent in emergencies
- Ability to pass a medical examination determining fitness to safely care for youth
- Ability to communicate verbally and listen for constant surveillance
