About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Organize and coordinate medical services with medical providers for unaccompanied children
- Process TARS through the UC Portal
- Maintain and update the UC Portal system
- Conduct initial medical screening and surveillance
- Provide ongoing healthcare and health education
- Manage and monitor delivery of services in compliance with company policy, state, and federal guidelines
- Prepare youth for examinations and record medical intake
- Initiate routine pregnancy tests
- Assist medical provider staff with claims submission
- Update UC charts with allergies, medication use, and immunization history
- Educate and counsel youth on disease, treatment, and prevention
- Answer youth questions regarding health, medication refills, and lab results
- Oversee and direct youth care staff
- Maintain medical files, documentation, and required records
- Schedule and comply with medical appointments and timelines
- Respond to emergency medical needs
- Maintain, review, and order medical supplies and medication
- Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports
- Schedule and provide transportation to medical appointments
- Submit, review, and follow up on Significant Incident Reports
- Participate in Quality Improvement activities
- Troubleshoot complex medical case-management issues
- Develop working relationships with staff, coworkers, physicians, and unaccompanied children
- Develop medical, specialty, and dental services with local providers
- Maintain HIPAA privacy
- Travel and support other Refugio programs when necessary
- Travel with unaccompanied children to medical appointments when requested
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School Diploma or equivalent
- MA Certification
- 1 year experience in the child welfare field working with children and/or adolescents in a social service setting
- Experience training and leading others and adapting to diverse situations
- Minimum age of 21 years or older
- Ability to resolve unforeseen problems with little or no direction from manager
- Excellent presentation skills and oral and written communication skills
- Proficiency with computers, common office equipment, and MS Office products
- Bilingual in Spanish and English (read, write, speak)
- Clean criminal background check
- Clean child abuse and neglect or child protective services check (CAN)
- Ability to multitask, be detail-oriented, and be organized
- Meet contract requirements for all immunizations
- Ability to evacuate at short notice and accompany residents to another city for several days
- Ability to perform emergency behavioral intervention (EBI) for children in care, as applicable
- Ability to ascend/descend stairs and lift up to 15 lbs.
- Ability to stand, bend, or stoop for sustained periods
- Ability to run, jump, lunge, twist, push, pull, apply approved restraint techniques, and manage the full weight of an infant or adolescent during emergencies
- Ability to pass a medical examination determining fitness to care safely for youth
