About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Coordinate appropriate urgent, emergent, and preventative health services for children across Refugio Urban Strategies programs
  • Maintain complete, confidential medical records
  • Communicate health needs to case managers and clinicians
  • Schedule healthcare appointments and coordinate transportation
  • Ensure qualified interpretation and translation services
  • Serve as liaison for community health providers
  • Coordinate health services and ensure timely, appropriate care
  • Assist with developing, implementing, and maintaining standardized medical policies and workflows
  • Ensure compliance with ORR, CDC, state, and federal medical requirements
  • Audit medical documentation, UAC Portal entries, charts, and required timelines
  • Support federal or state audits, monitoring visits, and incident reviews
  • Ensure consistency and compliance in UC Portal entries, screenings, immunizations, surveillance, SIRs, and supply and medication inventories
  • Assist with medical-related SIR reviews and program-level medical reports
  • Develop and maintain confidential health record, triage, emergency response, environmental health safety, and post-release care procedures
  • Assist with training medical and non-medical staff and onboarding new medical staff
  • Collaborate with Clinical, Case Management, Operations, Direct Care, HR, and other departments
  • Provide medical guidance during emergencies, escalations, or unusual medical cases
  • Participate in multidisciplinary and PMO leadership meetings
  • Expand partnerships with local medical, dental, specialty, and diagnostic providers
  • Support new program openings or expansions by establishing medical operational systems
  • Model Urban Strategies’ values and promote safety, compliance, and quality care

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum of 1 year of employment in public health or healthcare setting with demonstrated experience in care coordination, health administration or direct clinical care
  • Licensed practical or vocational nurse (LPN/LVN) or higher health-related qualification (e.g., licensed registered nurse (RN) with a bachelor’s degree), OR Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
  • Demonstrated experience developing medical protocols, auditing compliance, and coordinating multidisciplinary teams
  • Strong understanding of healthcare regulations, HIPAA, CDC guidelines, ORR medical standards
  • Organizational leadership, systems-building, and project management
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and relationship-building skills
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) fluent, written, and verbal
  • Clean criminal background check & CAN check
  • Must be able to travel to program sites as needed
  • Must be 21 or older
  • Able to travel to and navigate program sites and medical clinic environments
  • Able to stand, walk, or climb stairs during site visits
  • Able to respond to emergency program needs with flexibility
