About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Drive category performance through detailed analysis of product assortment, pricing changes, vendor proposals, and agreements
  • Optimize category activities including new product review, assortment review, vendor negotiations, RFPs, RFIs, and pricing work
  • Manage and analyze assigned category performance, including growth objectives, product assortment, pricing, promotions, and new product introductions
  • Maintain reports tracking performance and identify trends, changes, opportunities, and impacts against established metrics
  • Develop RFPs and RFIs and review vendor proposals, agreements, and contracts
  • Manage vendor relationships, lead product reviews, identify opportunities, negotiate promotions, deals, and Vendor Pricing Allowances
  • Review vendor performance reports, identify issues, and recommend solutions
  • Conduct product assortment reviews, identify top-performing SKUs by division and region, and recommend assortment changes
  • Review category pricing reports and analyze the impact of pricing and assortment changes
  • Develop category-specific communications and product launch support materials
  • Maintain relationships with US Foods regions and divisions and liaise to resolve escalated merchandising issues
  • Perform other duties assigned by the manager

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Four-year college degree in business or related field, or equivalent experience required
  • Minimum 3 years experience in retail, food service or with a consumer goods company
  • Prior experience in vendor relations, pricing and management of product assortment required
  • Prior Category Management experience strongly desired
  • Ability to operate successfully in a matrix environment and work effectively across multiple groups and levels
  • Solid quantitative and analytical skills
  • Strong knowledge of products within assigned category and division sales requirements, or ability to rapidly develop it
  • Ability to provide fact-based recommendations across various levels of management
  • High degree of motivation; ability to prioritize and self direct; strong business acumen and sound interpersonal skills
  • Strong verbal, written and presentation skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Outlook
  • Prior experience with Microsoft Access a plus
