About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Manage and oversee inventory costing processes, including standard costing and inventory valuation
- Analyze inventory transactions and adjustments for accuracy and accounting-standard compliance
- Coordinate, reconcile, and investigate physical inventory counts and variances with financial records
- Prepare and analyze inventory-related financial reports, including variance and trend analyses
- Monitor and report on inventory levels, aging, and slow-moving items
- Assist with month-end and year-end inventory close processes, journal entries, and reconciliations
- Develop and maintain inventory cost models
- Implement and improve inventory control procedures
- Provide management with cost-saving and inventory-management recommendations
- Ensure compliance with inventory accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
- Reconcile and approve cost and quantity variances at PO and invoice level
- Collaborate with CHEF’STORE leadership, Finance and Accounting leaders and associates, vendors, consultants, and market/industry sources
Requirements
What you’ll need- 3+ years of proven experience as an Inventory Cost Accountant, Inventory Analyst, or similar role within the retail industry
- Strong understanding of inventory costing methods and inventory management principles
- Proficiency in ERP systems
- Advanced Excel skills, including VLOOKUP and pivot tables
- Experience with inventory management software
- Excellent analytical skills and ability to interpret complex data and identify trends
- Knowledge of retail operations and familiarity with retail industry trends preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, or equivalent experience
- Up to 10% travel
- Must be able to perform required physical activities
- CPA or CMA certification is a plus
