About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead design and construction projects to US Foods specifications, including distribution centers, retail stores, training and test kitchens, food processing facilities, and offices
  • Manage project scope, budgets, timelines, and performance specifications
  • Lead collaboration among internal stakeholders and multidisciplinary consultants
  • Assist with facility prototype, standards, and optimization program development
  • Support design and construction procurement methods and project management tools
  • Forecast and develop capital projects for internal stakeholders
  • Lead feasibility studies and establish project goals, budgets, and schedules
  • Develop internal project teams and responsibilities with senior leadership
  • Recommend project execution approaches and lead sourcing
  • Clarify scope and develop project parameters with stakeholders
  • Identify and hire consultants and contractors
  • Lead site planning, approvals, building design, design reviews, bid oversight, change order reviews, schedule and budget reviews, and construction quality checks
  • Manage consultant and contractor payments
  • Manage construction punch-list and closeout activities
  • Evaluate consultant, contractor, and project team effectiveness
  • Conduct post-project analysis
  • Prepare project reports for senior management
  • Collaborate with other US Foods departments on cross-functional initiatives
  • Conduct industry benchmarking and evaluate innovative practices
  • Lead project team members without direct line reporting

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in architecture design, construction management, or project management of industrial or distribution center projects
  • Strong analytical and financial acumen skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Leadership skills, including delegation and accountability
  • Aesthetic judgment related to architectural design, landscape design, and branding integration
  • Attention to detail and quality orientation
  • Strategic thinking and ability to embrace new technologies
  • Strong collaboration skills
  • Technical skills in program/project management, building design, and general construction
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Windows; Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Project, Office 365 and SharePoint; Visio; AutoCAD or TruView
  • At least 25% and up to 50% overnight travel to construction sites
  • Bachelor Degree or equivalent in architecture, civil engineering, construction management, or project management required
