About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead a safety-first culture in the Transportation department
  • Oversee, develop, coach, and train drivers and Transportation associates
  • Discuss performance with Senior Transportation Managers and create plans to address gaps
  • Motivate associates to achieve department goals and objectives
  • Direct and supervise drivers and clerical associates
  • Drive associate engagement and retention
  • Participate in interviewing and hiring Transportation personnel
  • Review performance, coach on service and safety targets, and deliver disciplinary action
  • Monitor production goals and ensure accurate, timely shipments and customer satisfaction
  • Troubleshoot delivery problems and implement cost-effective, legal solutions
  • Ensure adherence to DOT regulations
  • Identify waste and improve processes for safety and efficiency
  • Conduct routine safety and driver meetings
  • Maintain driver qualification files
  • Investigate accidents, maintain accident files, track causes, and take preventative action
  • Schedule working shifts using planning tools such as Microsoft Excel
  • Spend time on the road with drivers and work in an office on a computer
  • Perform other duties assigned by the manager

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum of three years of experience in transportation/delivery or warehouse distribution required
  • Minimum of one year of experience overseeing a workforce required
  • Experience as a driver a plus
  • Broad knowledge of transportation/delivery operations, methods and procedures
  • Strong leadership, communication and people development skills
  • Strong understanding of DOT requirements
  • Familiarity with inventory control, OSHA, and other regulatory requirements
  • Ability to interpret financial and operational data
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office
  • High school diploma or GED required; college degree preferred
  • Must be able to perform the listed physical activities and lifting/carrying requirements
  • 10% travel required, typically for mandatory meetings and/or training
