About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Develop strategies, workflows and best practices to achieve audience growth and increase discoverability through social, newsletters, emerging platforms and search
- Monitor USA TODAY Sports analytics across platforms, social media, newsletters and alerts, translating data into action steps
- Lead audience planning for major sporting events, tentpoles and breaking news
- Determine how journalism should be packaged, distributed and presented throughout the audience journey
- Create, edit or optimize audience-focused content during major events and breaking news
- Partner crossdivisionally on efforts to monetize journalism and grow audience across social media and distributed platforms
- Manage a team of content creators and ensure consistent brand strategy, voice and execution across platforms
- Create and monitor reporting and KPI progress for loyalty, engagement, relevance and other business goals
- Experiment with innovative approaches to support company goals
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's or master's degree in communications, journalism, marketing or related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- At least 5 years of newsroom experience, including management
- Journalism experience is mandatory
- Preferably experience in an audience development role at a digitally-focused media organization with expertise in sports
- Proven passion and experience with storytelling via social media, search and newsletters
- Expertise in platforms such as Reddit, Discord, WhatsApp, Instagram, TikTok, X, Facebook, Threads and more
- Passion for helping news organizations distribute indispensable journalism and building trusted relationships with readers
- Proactive leadership skills and ability to manage time and prioritize tasks independently
- Willingness to work extended hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays, sometimes unexpectedly, when news requires it
