About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Manage a team responsible for launching and maturing new products in target strategic markets
  • Provide cross-functional leadership, product expertise, and support for product development, compliance, operations and process improvements, claims management, vendor management, product documentation, fulfillment, and system releases
  • Develop digital-first products supporting USAA members' needs and risks
  • Oversee development and launch of innovative products and enhanced features or services for existing products
  • Develop recommendations for new product launches and buy/build/ally decisions
  • Generate product and coverage solutions to maintain a dynamic product development pipeline
  • Maintain knowledge of business and underwriting performance for products in scope
  • Manage post-launch maintenance and underwriting of new-to-market products based on performance, member needs, and competitive changes, including product rules, rates, and forms
  • Gather data and member information to formulate product strategy and competitive intelligence
  • Lead analysis of internal and external data to support product strategy and competitive intelligence
  • Develop and communicate new product value propositions across teams and leadership levels
  • Ensure product development teams provide sales support across distribution channels
  • Direct analysis of product performance metrics and adapt offerings before full launch when necessary
  • Coordinate with Legal, Compliance, and Risk Management to ensure compliant product design and implementation
  • Coach and develop product development employees to maximize performance and engagement
  • Identify, measure, monitor, and control business risks in accordance with risk and compliance policies

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Supply Chain, or Statistics; OR 4 years of relevant education and/or experience
  • 8 years relevant industry experience in Actuary, Underwriting, Marketing, or Operations, including direct product management experience
  • 3 years of direct team lead or management experience
  • Experience developing product strategies, product plans, and product roadmaps
  • Demonstrated experience developing, deploying, and supporting products and/or integrated suites of products
  • Knowledge and application of Product Development Life Cycle (PDLC)
  • Experience leading an agile product development process and managing multiple products simultaneously
  • Exceptional executive communication and storytelling skills
  • Deep knowledge of personal lines property products, including Auto, HO, Fire, and Renters
  • Experience implementing underwriting solutions across legacy and modernized platforms, such as Guidewire and Earnix
  • Experience implementing advanced geospatial data, aerial imagery, and third-party data solutions
  • Extensive experience embedding predictive models, machine learning algorithms, and AI solutions into core underwriting decision engines
  • Experience leading subject-matter experts to translate underwriting problems into functional requirements for IT
  • Ability to define MVP parameters versus full-scale builds
  • Experience in an agile development environment, coaching Product Owners through feature development, and establishing benefits realization plans
  • Experience working across functional areas to build and implement solutions and engage stakeholders
  • US military experience through military service or a military spouse/domestic partner
  • Must not require immigration support now or in the future; USAA does not provide visa sponsorship
