Key responsibilities & impact
  • Investigate, evaluate, negotiate, and settle complex property insurance claims
  • Confirm and analyze coverage, recognize liability exposure, and negotiate equitable settlements in compliance with state regulations
  • Manage assigned caseloads involving complex property damage and potential legal liability
  • Partner with vendors, internal business partners, and external regulators to resolve claims and ensure compliance
  • Research claim damages using information from insureds, third parties, and external resources
  • Identify discrepancies, subrogation potential, coverage concerns, prior loss history, and SIU referral needs
  • Analyze complex policy terms and contingencies to determine coverage
  • Determine and negotiate settlements within authority limits; recommend settlements outside authority limits with management
  • Maintain accurate, thorough, and current claim file documentation
  • Use estimating technology, virtual inspection tools, and claims platforms to prepare estimates
  • Support workload surges and catastrophe response operations, including mandatory on-call dates and potential evening, weekend, and holiday work
  • Travel for catastrophe deployments, claim resolution, training, and in-person inspections
  • Work independently on complex problems and serve as a resource for less-experienced colleagues
  • Adjust complex claims involving attorneys
  • Address jurisdictional challenges, applicable legislation, and construction considerations
  • Identify, measure, monitor, and control risks in accordance with compliance policies and procedures

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma
  • 2 years of relevant property claims adjusting experience involving moderate-complexity losses, writing estimates, dwelling and structural damages
  • Advanced knowledge of estimating losses using Xactimate or similar tools and platforms
  • Proficient knowledge of residential construction
  • Proficient knowledge of property claims contracts and interpretation of case law and state laws and regulations
  • Proficient negotiation, investigation, communication, and conflict resolution skills
  • Proven investigatory, analytical, prioritizing, multi-tasking, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to travel 50–75% of the year, locally and non-locally, and/or work catastrophe duty when needed
  • Acquisition and maintenance of an insurance adjuster license within 90 days and 3 attempts
  • Successful completion of a job-related assessment may be required
  • Hands-on experience handling high-severity and complex property claims
  • Residential property field adjusting experience with dwelling, structure, and additional living expenses
  • Experience working directly for a standard insurance carrier handling claims from start to finish
  • Proficiency with Xactimate, ClaimXperience, and XactAnalysis
  • Insurance industry designations such as AINS, CPCU, AIC, or SCLA, or actively pursuing them
  • Active Property & Casualty adjuster license is listed as a differentiator
  • Currently reside in the Upper New York area
  • US military experience through military service or a military spouse/domestic partner
  • Ability to meet safe driving requirements, possess a valid driver's license, and pass MVR verification
  • Ability to lift at least 35 pounds
  • Ability to climb ladders, traverse roofs, and work at heights
  • Ability to crouch and stoop to inspect attics, crawl spaces, and other confined areas
  • Must not require immigration support or visa sponsorship now or in the future
