About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Investigate highly complex auto claims to determine coverage, liability, and physical damage, including total loss settlements
  • Negotiate liability for comparative negligence with claimants or adverse carriers
  • Identify coverage concerns, review prior loss history, and create SIU referrals when appropriate
  • Gather information from police reports, recorded statements, and witness statements to determine liability
  • Analyze information to establish regulatory compliance and settlement value
  • Evaluate and negotiate first- and third-party automobile physical damage settlements within authority limits
  • Negotiate excessive storage charges
  • Resolve claims through proactive problem solving and decision making under moderate supervision
  • Document damage evaluation, investigation, negotiation, and settlement decisions
  • Collaborate with external and internal business partners to facilitate claims resolution
  • Support members, business partners, and claimants through multiple communication channels and digital tools
  • Apply knowledge of P&C insurance products, policy contracts, coverages, and claims procedures
  • Serve as an informal resource for team members when needed
  • Support workload surges and catastrophe response operations, including mandatory on-call dates and potential evening, weekend, and holiday work
  • Potentially travel for CAT deployments with minimal notice
  • Handle various claims, including higher-complexity claims, and additional work as assigned
  • Identify, measure, monitor, and control risks in accordance with risk and compliance policies

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma
  • 2 years of customer service experience
  • 1 year of experience handling low to moderately complex auto non injury liability claims
  • Experience determining auto liability coverage
  • Proficient knowledge and understanding of the auto claims contract as well as application of case law and state laws and regulations
  • Acquisition and maintenance of insurance adjuster license within 90 days and 3 attempts
  • Demonstrated negotiation, investigation, communication, and conflict resolution skills
  • Proven investigatory, analytical, prioritizing, multi-tasking, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to organize, analyze, and effectively determine risk and appropriate response
  • Successful completion of a job-related assessment may be required
  • Experience adjusting auto total loss and liability claims
  • Experience working in Guidewire and CCC estimating software
  • Claim file ownership, end to end claim experience
  • Experience on a Voluntary Catastrophe Team (VCT) or CAT deployment
  • Currently hold an active insurance adjuster license
  • Available to work overtime and/or internal CAT duty hours as needed
  • Currently reside in Colorado Springs, Phoenix or San Antonio
  • US military experience through military service or as a military spouse/domestic partner
  • Must not require immigration support now or in the future; USAA does not provide visa sponsorship
