About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Investigate, negotiate, evaluate, and appraise vehicle damage claims for repairable and total loss vehicles
  • Evaluate highly complex auto physical damage claims using digital tools and applicable contracts, guidelines, and laws
  • Investigate claim damages and communicate with insureds, internal claims adjusters, and third parties/vendors
  • Review facts of loss and vehicle damage to identify subrogation opportunities and maintain supporting documentation
  • Apply advanced knowledge of P&C insurance products, services, contracts, and internal processes
  • Review claims and suppliers for fraud indicators and refer applicable matters to the Special Investigations Unit
  • Maintain accurate and current claim file documentation
  • Manage desk workload, follow up timely, and map repair plans and repair timelines
  • Review additional damage from repair facilities and complete supplements or triage inspections to field providers
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for disputed claims or trials and support team members on escalated issues
  • Partner with vendors and internal business partners to resolve high-complexity claims
  • Coordinate with external regulators when needed to ensure documentation and compliance
  • Provide policyholders with coverage, repair estimate, total loss valuation, and claims/repair process information
  • Support workload surges and catastrophe response operations, including mandatory on-call dates and potential evening, weekend, or holiday work
  • Travel for CAT deployments with minimal notice when assigned
  • Identify, measure, monitor, and control business risks under risk and compliance policies

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma
  • 2 years of auto appraising experience
  • Proficient knowledge of P&C insurance policy contracts and coverages, auto parts distribution process and claim appraisal process and procedures
  • Advanced working knowledge of estimating losses using CCC or similar estimating platforms
  • Demonstrated written and verbal skills to communicate with members, claimants, repair facilities, and other internal and external stakeholders
  • Acquisition and maintenance of insurance adjuster license within 90 days and 3 attempts
  • May require ability to operate a company vehicle within assigned territory
  • May require ability to reach, handle, squat, bend, climb, and kneel to complete inspections
  • May require ability to work outdoors in inclement weather and in body shop and/or salvage yard environments up to 25% of the time
  • Must meet USAA safe driving requirements, including verification of driving record through MVR and possession of a valid driver's license
  • USAA does not provide visa sponsorship; applicants must not require immigration support now or in the future
  • Active Florida All-Lines Adjusters License preferred
  • I-CAR ProLevel 3 (Platinum) certification or actively pursuing ProLevel 3 preferred
  • Experience as a Field Auto Appraiser with a Property & Casualty insurance carrier preferred
  • Experience preparing estimates and evaluations using CCC preferred
  • Experience balancing collision repair estimates in Virtual and Field environments preferred
  • Ability to deploy on CAT when needed preferred
  • US military experience or experience as a military spouse/domestic partner preferred
