About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Partner with leaders across product, underwriting, and sales to uncover insights that drive growth, improve member experiences, and inform strategic decisions
- Provide decision support for business areas across the association
- Apply mathematical, statistical, innovative, and quantitative analytical approaches to answer business objectives and drive change
- Gather, manipulate, and synthesize attributes, transactions, behaviors, models, and other relevant data
- Draw conclusions and make insight-to-action recommendations that result in implementable strategies
- Participate in or lead cross-functional discussions to understand complex business objectives and influence solution strategies
- Solve medium- to large-scale business problems with significant current or future strategic impact
- Translate recommendations into communication materials for management
- Use data visualization to make analyses understandable to less technical audiences
- Identify and gather relevant, high-quality data sources through testing or exploratory data analysis
- Integrate and transform disparate data sources and apply appropriate data hygiene techniques
- Document assumptions, methodology, validation, and testing for peer review and compliance
- Adopt emerging technologies affecting scientific and quantitative analytical methodologies
- Deliver findings to influence management, business decisions, and strategy
- Provide subject matter expertise in operationalizing recommendations
- Stay informed on data and analytics trends including cloud, data mining, Python, neural networks, sensor data, IoT, and streaming/NRT data
- Identify opportunities for informal or formal learning in data and analytics
- Ensure business risks are identified, measured, monitored, and controlled under risk and compliance policies
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree in Economics, Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, Actuarial Sciences, Operations Research, Data and/or Business Analysis, Data Science, or a business or quantitative field, OR 4 years of relevant education and/or experience may be substituted in lieu of degree, for a total of 10 years of experience without a bachelor's degree
- 6 years of data & analytics experience, OR 4 years of data & analytics experience plus up to 2 years of progressive functional business-relevant experience, OR an advanced quantitative analytics degree plus 4 years of data/analytics or relevant functional business experience
- Advanced skills in mathematical and statistical techniques and approaches
- Advanced knowledge of data analysis tools, data visualization, SQL, SAS, BI tools or other analysis software, and relevant industry data and methods
- Experience with new and emerging datasets, including data wrangling and data munging
- No visa sponsorship; applicants must not require immigration support now or in the future
- 5 or more years of experience leveraging SQL, Python, and statistical methods to integrate and analyze disparate data sources (what sets you apart)
- Advanced data visualization, communication, and executive presentation skills (what sets you apart)
- Experience with advanced analytics and data science techniques, including statistics, machine learning, optimization, or simulation (what sets you apart)
- Expertise in call center, sales funnel, underwriting, and customer analytics, preferably within Life Insurance, Health Insurance, Annuities, or financial services products (what sets you apart)
