About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Review, administer, audit, and account for assigned contracts and external awards
  • Monitor awards and contracts for regulatory and statutory compliance and fulfillment of vendor and University commitments
  • Provide departmental faculty and administrative staff with contract budget and financial information
  • Give guidance on budget/expenditure procedures and financial controls
  • Prepare and distribute funding allocations and budget amendments
  • Prepare financial reporting, forecasting, reconciliations, and analysis
  • Assist with preparation, review, analysis, execution, and management of organizational agreements
  • Develop and oversee contract and award tracking and reporting systems
  • Monitor agreements, amendments, renewals, invoicing, billing, expenditures, and closeout requirements
  • Conduct internal compliance reviews of contract and award files
  • Prepare financial reports, dashboards, presentations, correspondence, agendas, and related documentation
  • Perform monthly reconciliation and financial monitoring, including payroll, expenditures, travel, procurement activity, and cost transfers
  • Oversee the Personnel Effort Reporting (PERT) process and resolve discrepancies
  • Review award financial activity for closeout
  • Develop and improve SOPs, internal controls, training materials, reconciliation tools, and budget templates
  • Provide guidance, training, and technical support on financial processes, contract administration, budgeting, and compliance
  • Use institutional financial systems and reporting tools to analyze financial data for decision-making and leadership reporting
  • Report directly to the Budget Director on the USF St. Petersburg campus
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a business field and one year of work experience in research, research administration, or a university financial function; or a Master's degree
  • Progressively responsible related experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis
  • Current work authorization in the United States
  • Previous experience in academic research
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Thorough understanding of accounting and budgeting principles and practices
  • Understanding of statistical methodology
  • Understanding of generally accepted accounting principles
  • Understanding of generally accepted auditing standards
