About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Review historical records, operational files, and standing operational procedures for compliance with local, state, and federal requirements
- Conduct data analysis and prepare reports for agency personnel and the Florida Department of Transportation
- Schedule, prepare, travel, and provide on-site consultation services and inspections/audits of transit agencies across Florida
- Interview employees and management to assess safety, security, and operational practices
- Provide formal and informal instruction on compliance and improved operational practices
- Provide on-site technical assistance and guidance during compliance reviews and follow-up activities
- Guide agencies in developing and implementing processes to improve maintenance operations and public safety
- Develop techniques to improve maintenance operations and create training and education programs
- Deliver presentations and participate in local and state committees to improve transit operations
- Coordinate reviews with FDOT personnel and Substance Abuse Management Oversight and Technical Assistance Program staff
- Become a subject matter expert on Federal PTASP regulations and updated Florida Rule Chapter 14-90 regulations
- Train on battery electric buses, autonomous vehicles, microtransit, mobility management, and transit network company safety regulations
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree in a physical science, engineering, or related field, with one year of experience in a safety and health consultation or inspection-related position
- Relevant experience in safety and health consultation and/or inspections, and/or industrial hygiene may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required degree
- Four years of directly relevant experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree
- Six years of directly relevant experience may be substituted for a master's degree
- Preferred: Six years of professional experience in transportation/transit system safety and/or experience working in a transit agency's safety program, including reviewing safety and security programs and conducting safety and security compliance reviews
- Ability to travel extensively across Florida
- May be required to interact with state officials, equipment vendors, and transit system leadership teams
- Position may be subject to a Level 1 or Level 2 criminal background check
