About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Assess, create, and manage outgoing sub-awards for the University
  • Manage setup of subawards in ResearchUVA and Workday Financials
  • Review subrecipients for conformity with University, federal, state, and sponsor policies
  • Identify, articulate, and resolve issues in subaward review through contact and follow-up with administrators, faculty, subrecipients, or third parties
  • Apply knowledge of contractual provisions from federal and non-federal prime sponsors, FDP templates, and subaward terms and conditions
  • Perform risk assessments of subrecipients' ability to manage subaward responsibilities
  • Review and negotiate outgoing subaward agreements, amendments, incoming subawards, grant agreements, and similar collaborative research agreements
  • Manage a complex portfolio and advise University faculty and staff on research administration and compliance
  • Ensure adherence to FAR, Uniform Guidance, sponsor guidelines, and University policies
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures for subrecipient monitoring, document collection, and subaward review and execution
  • Mentor and guide new administrators
  • Perform other assigned duties

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least three years of relevant experience required
  • A combination of education and relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
  • Strong listening and communication skills
  • Ability to learn new systems and grasp new concepts and processes efficiently
  • Ability to work self-sufficiently while contributing actively to the Pre-Award team
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Experience with grants and contracts in research administration within an institution of higher education preferred
  • Certified Research Administrator (CRA) certification or similar preferred
  • Must not require sponsorship at this time
  • Successful completion of background checks prior to employment
