About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Develop new and innovative designs to meet customer needs
  • Work with cross-functional teams to ensure high-quality designs and products
  • Participate in technical design review meetings and conference calls, providing mechanical design direction and input
  • Follow standard design and development procedures and recommend updates when needed
  • Coordinate Engineering Technicians' activities and participate in testing
  • Implement project plans and monitor progress against established schedules and budgets
  • Maintain relationships with customers, field personnel, and Valmont departments
  • Prepare detailed project documentation required by Valmont Product Development procedures
  • Advance personal technical competence and knowledge of Valmont products and manufacturing capabilities
  • Review and provide input to product development procedures for continuous improvement
  • Coordinate and conduct laboratory or field testing as needed
  • Provide technical support to other departments
  • Coordinate with Manufacturing Engineering, Production, Operations, Service, and Engineering Services to ensure design efficiency and manufacturability
  • Collaborate with Valmont's dealer network to support Engineering initiatives
  • Report to the Director of Engineering
  • Travel up to 10% domestically or internationally as required

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Agricultural Engineering
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Mechanical aptitude with strong analytical, organizational, communication, and teamwork skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
  • Experience with 3D CAD and Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
  • Willingness to travel up to 10%, including international travel
  • Demonstrated initiative, integrity, and passion for solving problems and delivering results
  • Project management experience preferred
  • Experience with Creo (Pro/E), ANSYS, RISA 3D, Adobe Acrobat, QAD, and Windchill preferred
  • Knowledge of steel metallurgy, welding processes, and fatigue design of welded steel structures preferred
  • Familiarity with mechanized irrigation systems preferred
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification with interest in obtaining PE licensure preferred
  • Experience working with Agile methodologies preferred
