EHS Specialist

About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Report directly to the EHS Manager with matrixed reporting to the Regional Safety Manager
- Create annual, site-specific environmental, health and safety targets and objectives
- Manage EHS information system data for injuries, workers compensation claims, near misses, inspections and environmental permits
- Lead the risk assessment process to recognize, evaluate and control site hazards
- Manage implementation of global EHS standards, including Hazardous Energy Control/Lockout, Confined Space Entry and Waste Storage
- Deploy and facilitate environment, health and safety teams such as Safety Committee and Green Team
- Lead team-based incident investigations and drive root cause and corrective actions
- Develop and maintain environmental, health and safety training processes
- Collect data for multi-media environmental regulatory reporting and permit submittals
- Serve as the site’s initial point of contact with national and local environmental, health and safety regulatory agencies
- Engage daily with employees on the floor to foster a cooperative safety program
- Conduct EHS training and EHS committee meetings
- Collect and enter data for safety contacts, hazard identifications and environmental regulatory requirements
- Manage the waste storage area, including record keeping, tracking and disposal
Requirements
What you’ll need- Successful completion of the Valmont EHS Specialist curriculum within three months of hire
- Ability to manage environment, health and safety information and regulatory data
- Knowledge of hazardous energy control/lockout, confined space entry and waste storage
- Ability to lead risk assessments and incident investigations
- Ability to develop and maintain EHS training processes
- Ability to collect data for environmental regulatory reporting and permit submittals
- Ability to engage with environmental, health and safety regulatory agencies
- Ability to manage waste storage records, tracking and disposal
