About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Analyze and report site financial data including sales, cost of sales, margin analysis, inventory valuation and reconciliation, manufacturing performance and variances, income statements, balance sheets, operational variances, capital expenditures, forecast/planning and special projects
  • Prepare and analyze the site’s annual financial plan
  • Develop, review and maintain financial and operational control procedures
  • Prepare and review monthly general ledger account reconciliations
  • Report to the North America Controllership Director with dotted-line responsibilities to the Plant Manager
  • Support two small plants, generally with revenue of $75M or less
  • Manage one direct report, the site accounting associate
  • Prepare financial statements, business activity reports, financial position forecasts, annual budgets and regulatory reports
  • Establish and maintain accounting and internal controls compliant with US GAAP and Valmont policies
  • Manage inventory valuation, standard costs, cost variances, inventory reserves, invoicing, revenue recognition, receivables, accruals, payables, liabilities and debt balances
  • Maintain balance sheet reconciliations and supporting documentation
  • Ensure SOX controls have owners and are self-tested
  • Ensure journal entries are properly supported and documented
  • Collaborate with site operations finance/controllers on daily, weekly and monthly operational reporting
  • Manage working capital and inventory in collaboration with operations
  • Assist with implementing and monitoring the Annual Operating Plan and financial reports
  • Monitor performance against plan and communicate variances to the Plant Manager and site staff
  • Administer policies and procedures supporting plant productivity, throughput, cost reduction, Lean activities and safe operations
  • Oversee monthly accounting close activities
  • Monitor facility profitability, margins and inventory transactions; identify problems and solutions
  • Perform statistical analysis and present site performance findings
  • Communicate with employees, vendors and agencies
  • Maintain knowledge of organizational, federal and state policies and GAAP requirements
  • Conduct or coordinate audits for compliance with state and federal requirements
  • Enforce accountability and ethical, competent control practices
  • Provide direction regarding accounting, budgeting, and financial resource controls
  • Travel domestically up to 10%, including overnight stays

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Preferred Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or equivalent with 7+ years of experience, or associates degree with 9+ years, or 11+ years of experience
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Strong analytical, thinking and reasoning skills
  • Detail and goal oriented
  • Strong initiative and ability to make decisions, take action and solve problems
  • Leadership abilities to influence others to perform their jobs effectively and to be responsible for making decisions
  • Sound judgement skills
  • Ability to work in a matrix environment
  • Responsible – ability to hold oneself accountable or answerable for one’s conduct
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is highly qualified
  • CPA is highly qualified
  • 4+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment is highly qualified
  • Working knowledge of Accounting software and manufacturing ERP (SAGE, IFS) is highly qualified
