About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Manage community outreach programming for Metro Public Schools.
  • Hire student volunteers who assist in the VSVS lab and travel to designated Metro Public Schools for STEM-focused projects.
  • Manage logistics for four VSVS programs, HHPH, and STEM Speaks.
  • Maintain relationships with 34 current schools and 30 community partners and develop new partnerships.
  • Manage funding sources for VSVS, HHPH, and STEM Speaks.
  • Manage materials purchasing for all programs.
  • Plan and facilitate approximately five annual outreach events.
  • Write grant applications as needed.
  • Refine and design curriculum aligned with state standards and develop STEM Speaks content.
  • Manage volunteer bases and student executive boards.
  • Hire, train, and manage approximately 20 part-time student lab employees annually.
  • Plan and facilitate approximately five annual professional development sessions for grades 6–8 teachers.
  • Facilitate student volunteer transportation needs.
  • Guide Vanderbilt undergraduate students through special projects.
  • Support local schools seeking STEM designation through the Tennessee Department of Education.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Serve as a line manager to student volunteers and report to the Associate Administrative Officer.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education, or the equivalent in experience, is necessary.
  • Microsoft Office skills are necessary.
  • Strong administrative support skills are necessary.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills are necessary.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills are necessary.
  • Outstanding attention to detail is necessary.
  • Problem solving skills and ability to be flexible are necessary.
  • Two years of directly related experience is necessary.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in science, science education, or experience in science engagement is preferred.
  • Lab Management skills is preferred.
  • Previous experience with Oracle reporting is preferred.
