About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide direct, age-specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and the plan of care under the direction of the physician
- Function under the direction of a licensed independent practitioner, manager and/or RN in providing patient care, emotional support, and problem solving
- Follow hospital, nursing, and unit policy/procedure
- Obtain prior supervisor approval or guidance for time/schedule changes, legal issues, directed care that deviates from standard, and identification of educational resources
- Handle, transport, access, and/or come into contact with medications and related supplies
- Work Monday through Friday on the day shift, with schedules and shift rotations adjusted as necessary to meet clinic requirements
Requirements
What you’ll need- Current Medical Assistant Certification through a recognized national professional association such as the American Association of Medical Assistants, the American Medical Technologists, The National Association of Healthcare Professions, the American Registry of Medical Assistants, or the National Healthcare Association
- AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent
- One (1) year of medical assistant work experience within the last three (3) years if individual is not a graduate of a medical assistant program
- No work experience if individual is a graduate of a medical assistant program
- Previous experience using a personal computer and various software applications, including Microsoft, e-mail, etc.
- Demonstrated experience utilizing strong organizational, problem solving, communication and interpersonal skills
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Certified Medical Assistants work all three shifts, weekends and holidays
- Ability to lift 20-50 lbs.
- Prolonged standing and sitting; frequent bending; walking; climbing; overhead, extensive, and repetitive reaching
- Strong recall, reasoning, problem solving, hearing, clear speech, legible writing, reading, and logical thinking
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, handle multiple priorities, and adapt to frequent change
- Preferred: Two (2) to three (3) years of previous experience as a Certified Medical Assistant
- Preferred: Previous experience in an academic health care environment
- Preferred: Graduation from a Medical Assisting training program from an accredited program of study such as CAAHEP or ABHES
