About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Repair, calibrate, inspect, test, maintain, and troubleshoot imaging and/or radiation oncology equipment
- Perform electrical safety tests on equipment
- Resolve complex mechanical, electrical, and software-related equipment issues
- Serve as a technical resource for staff using imaging and radiation oncology equipment
- Lead, instruct, and assist less experienced Engineers; provide coaching and feedback
- Ensure day-to-day operational requirements are completed in the absence of leadership
- Perform advanced troubleshooting and repair on assigned equipment
- Install, validate, and maintain assigned equipment
- Lead customer communications and serve as escalation point for customer-related concerns, including installs
- Own customer issues from dispatch or identification through resolution
- Ensure equipment meets safety and performance standards through testing and quality control
- Adhere to safety protocols and regulatory requirements
- Assist with procurement, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of new delivery technology
- Partner with customers and recommend value-added services
- Maintain customer service logs and internal service records; order repair parts and manage cycle times
- Communicate with unit managers when repair expenses affect budgets
- Keep current with vendor information and market trends
- Participate in advanced vendor/model equipment training, potentially requiring extended travel outside the local area
- Demonstrate understanding of expense management and approval processes
Requirements
What you’ll need- Associate’s in Engineering or related field, or combination of experience and education in lieu of related degree
- Minimum of four (4) years’ experience in the repair and/or maintenance of electronic equipment and/or medical equipment associated with Imaging
- Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in the repair and/or maintenance of Advanced Imaging and/or Radiation Oncology equipment involving at least 2 major imaging contracted vendors utilized at VCUHS
- Full understanding of electrical principles and theory, electrical safety, basic electrical instrumentation care and use, and basic understanding of healthcare structure and environment
- Basic understanding of Microsoft Applications and computer functions
- Sound knowledge of software applications relevant to Advanced Imaging and/or Radiation Oncology equipment involving major imaging contracted vendors utilized at VCUHS
- Complete understanding of networking equipment to internal and external systems
- Familiarity with physics as it applies to Radiation Oncology and Linear Accelerator theory
- Ability to troubleshoot with vendor assistance over the phone
- Ability to perform shift work, travel to off-site locations, and long-distance or air travel as needed
- Ability to handle physical demands including lifting/carrying up to 100 lbs., pushing/pulling up to 100 lbs., stooping, kneeling, squatting, bending, standing, walking, and sitting
- Ability to work around electrical shock, X-ray/electromagnetic energy, toxic/caustic chemicals, moving mechanical parts, dust/fumes, high-pitched noises, and other listed hazards
